Then after a long hiatus in the cupboard (maybe 4 months without any use) i took it out this week and as i was putting the cup of beans into the grinder, the blade broke and now it only grinds into pebble like chunks. After it falling off several times the button broke off and then the cover cracked in 2. and now finally, it wont grind. The thing is top heavy.
This weekend i'm off to buy a new grinder. We registered for this grinder because it was attractive (the stainless steel gets ya everytime) and the brand name attracted us. What a bummer. We got this as a wedding gift (our fault, we registered for it)and our 1 year anniversary is coming up and its finally bit the dust. I've had to tape the thing back together several times. We keep the unit in the cupboard and multiple times as i was taking it up, the top cover falls off and hits the floor. I was able to tape it back together the first time but once the button fell off - i then had to start using a paperclip, or wooden skewer to push the internal button down to grind.
Well, no longer. This grinder sucks. Boo. I mean i can bet that we've probably use this to actually grind beans less than 50 times.
I have found quite the opposite. Pros: the volume is pretty good for a grinder of this type; fast; dishwasher safe parts; nice looking; self-storing cord; seems likely to last.Cons: I find that the final product is not uniformly ground and there's always a layer of coffee that sticks to the bottom which I have to run my finger around to loosen. Some of the reviewers claim this grinder is loud. It's much quieter than the Krups model I also own.
Completely lifeless, just like the first one. I am not replacing it again.I did notice that it's easy to overwhelm this grinder if you a) add too many beans, and b) use a fairly oily roast, such as Italian or French.
It's been chugging along for years. Could be that if you use whimpy beans and keep the level low -- no problems.
I found that in general I probably ran it over a minute each time (and sometimes I could smell the motor). Just a guess.Back to my noisy old Braun.
I'm not really sure why, but my free replacement (Bed, Bath, and Beyond) just died again. Each lasted 2-3 months.
My sister has had one for almost a year (she uses whimpy beans).
Used it twice, third time ran a couple seconds and died. Need I say more.
Don't waste your money. I am trying a different brand. This product is a real piece of junk and I threw mine in the garbage where it belongs. Bearden on June 17, 2007. It absolutely could not release. After a few uses the bowl could not be released from the assembly. It is the same problem reported by M. It's probably not worth the effort to get a new one.
